SPECIAL EXHIBITION

Textile Artist Eva Forster

The diverse work of textile artist Eva Forster (born in 1936 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland) is being honoured with a special exhibition at the International Textile Festival in Maretsch Castle.

Eva Forster combines the creative and craftsmanship aspects of a work of art in her pieces. The term “tapestry”, often used incorrectly to describe her work, is in fact a textile mosaic in which the elements that form it are first dyed, assembled and then sewn onto the backing. Based on the technique of Korak, now the common name for an ancient patchwork technique from Central Asia (mainly Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan), Eva Forster sews entirely by hand. Her murals are transformed into ‘works of art’ full of ideas that captivate the viewer.
